At their annual meeting each fall, the UULMF Steering Committee reviews core Issues and programs from the prior year and examines current and anticipated issues of state and federal importance for Florida UUs.

After developing a short list of the most important new issues, with input from UUs statewide via their congregational connections with UULMF, the Steering Committee considers core Issues and programs from the year before. From these, the Steering Committee selects the UULMF Core Issues and Programs for the current year.

The Core Issues for 2011-2012 selected by the Steering Committee are Renewing American Democracy, Immigration as a Moral Issue, and Climate Change. These issues are based on needs at the state and national level, issues that affect Floridians and may also have been selected for work and study by the UUA and by our partner UU Legislative Ministries nationwide. Together we can empower the voice of our Unitarian Universalist values in the public arena. The work we do is faith based, grounded in our Seven Principles. UULMF works "upstream" at the state and national levels to solve problems we see every day "downstream" in our communities.  We do this work happily with Unitarian Univeralist congregations and individuals, and with interfaith partners and public interest organizations who believe that when we work together on issues for the common good, our voices will be heard.

The UULMF Steering Committee invites you to let us know what core Issues and Programs you would like us to address.

Please visit our "Talk with Us" page, where you can tell us where and how you think UULMF could help.

We appreciate your interest and encourage you and your friends to get and stay involved with UULMF and the political process in Florida.

There are seven principles which Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote:

  • The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
  • Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
