A native of Indiana, Gerald earned BS and MA degrees from Ball State University. With the Indiana State Teachers Association (NEA), he gained extensive expertise in the labor movement and political action work, and trained as an attorney to arbitrate grievances, conduct Unfair Labor Practice hearings and present impasse hearings before the Indiana Education Employment Relations Board.

Gerald and his wife Janet are members of the Tarpon Springs Unitarian Universalist Church where Gerald serves as clerk of the Board of Trustees.

Serving his community is a commitment Gerald has made. He has been a member of the Tarpon Springs Charter Review Committee and Budget Advisory Committee, president of his Homeowners Association, and long time president of the Greater Tarpon Springs Democratic Club.Gerald is liaison to the following UU congregations:
